Noting the success of Wisconsin’s Best Beer Guide, it only made sense to create a Michigan’s Best Beer Guide.
Creating a roadtrip guide to the breweries of Michigan proved to be even more daunting as the Great Lakes State has well over 135 of them! But I was up to the task and spent the better part of a year driving around Michigan to collect data, interviews, and photos of the brewers and breweries that keep Michigan well-stocked in good craft beer.

And like its neighbor’s book across the Lake, Michigan’s Best Beer Guide also has the special offers corresponding to passport-style signatures you can get in your book when you visit each brewery.
Inside Michigan’s Best Beer Guide you will find:
- Listings for 139 breweries and brewpubs from the big-time Bell’s all the way down to the (little) Big O nanobrewery up in the Leelanau Peninsula. From downtown Detroit to the Superior shores of the Upper Peninsula.
- Beer listings include directions, beer info, the story of the place and its brewer, food options, as well as Stumbling Distance: 2 or 3 places nearby that you shouldn’t miss if you’ve made the trip.
- Related museums and tours
- Breweries reachable by bike trail, bus tour, or brew cruise
- A short history of beer in Michigan
- Lots of little facts and explanations about beer, how it’s made, and even how to drink it (as if you didn’t know already)
- Special Offers: get your book signed at each participating brewery for trinkets or beer discounts
Suitable for the beer curious or beer snobs alike, Michigan’s Best Beer Guide will lead you on a pils-grimage to find all the Michigan-made beer in its natural habitat. I was looking for a Valentine’s gift for my husband and found this article. He will be very excited about this book. Him and his friends are doing a road trip in May to visit their favorite Michigan breweries. Please let me know when this book becomes available!
I hope to get it out by then, but it may be close! Soooo many breweries!!!

Kevin,
My wife and I have been enjoying the book since last Christmas [2013]. We’ve visited over 80 breweries in Michigan. Yet we seem to be losing ground! There are closer to 180 breweries now….
Of course your book is just a snapshot in time; as soon as it is published it becomes “overtaken by events”.
So when will Volume II be published? 😉
