Bali Fishermen at Sunrise

In the dark hours of the morning I could hear thumping like wooden drums and the scraping of wood across the rocky beach below our bungalow. The fishermen were heading out to sea in double-outrigger boats that spend the better portion of daylight hours at the top of the beach with their colorful sails furled. I rose in anticipation of the sunrise and watched as the growing light revealed hundreds of boats far out to sea.
