Photo Monday: Girl on a Bangkok Bus

Back to Bangkok this week after my month-long business trip through Asia, so this week’s photo also comes from the city. I wasn’t sure if this shot was charming or disturbing, but when I saw it, I had to take it. Is she simply dozing or a bit sick today? She was so motionless on a lurching bus, she also appeared, um, at peace.

In Thailand, and many countries of the world, there really is no Take Your Daughter to Work Day per se. Often it is simply a necessity. Street vendors have a kid or two scurrying around sometimes. Not sure if that’s the case here, but she does appear to have a padded board like an bus seat cushion to lie on. When I boarded the bus, this girl was completely zonked out next to the driver. I’ve always admired those who could sleep just about anywhere. A Bangkok city bus is expert level.

  • I cannot for the life of me sleep on a bus. I think it comes from too many road trips where I am driving. In a moving vehicle I am too conditioned to stay awake.

  • Agree with Ted. I can never sleep on a bus, so am very jealous of this girl. Good photo though!
