The UK isn’t renowned for its culinary history, generally being more the butt of jokes, but the English food scene is having a renaissance and local produce is taking centre stage. From big cities to small villages, amazing new cafes and restaurants are popping up every day, giving visitors a chance to taste English food at its best.
The Lake District, in the north west of England, has some of the best local food producers in the country and despite it being a tourist hotspot, there are still some great food bargains to be had. From light and fresh lunches, to sticky sweet desserts, there is something to suit every taste and budget in the Lake District.

One of the owners is a lifelong vegetarian so the menu is varied – you’ll find everything from slow roasted meat dishes, vegetarian mezze platters, and delicious homemade desserts.
