Milwaukee, the King of the Fests, Presents Germanfest 2009

Break out your lederhosen, it’s Germanfest time again in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is a serious beer and bratwurst sort of town and that’s thanks to a large population of German immigrants that started moving there in the mid-19th century.

The fest runs all weekend and started Thursday night. Styrina, one of Germany’s pop stars is performing and there is a jet flyover (not particularly German, but happens to be going on as part of the Air and Sky Show this weekend).

Now that’s a hat. You know, when you’re out in the woods the mosquitoes and such swarm around your head. Do you think this might serve as a head decoy??

Some local Frauleins hanging around the strudel cart. From wursts and schnitzels to kraut and potato pancakes, German food abounds. So does beer and Jagermeister. Buy a beer boot from Sprecher Brewery.

Chikaria provides some lively musical entertainment. Local brewer, Sprecher provides some damn nice beer. (My personal favorite is Black Bavarian. Sprecher’s beers won 9 medals (5 gold) in the 2009 United States Open Beer Championship)

Expect lots of cultural exhibits from genealogy to a little blacksmith experience.

A Sheepshead Tournament! I was hoping for the debate about whether it was in fact Sheephead or Sheepshead.

And for Packer football fans out there, I just have to share this great t-shirt with you…
